Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine therapy that involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to promote healing and improve overall health. Acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi, or life energy, which is believed to flow through the body along pathways known as meridians. By stimulating specific points along these meridians, acupuncturists aim to balance the flow of Qi and restore overall health and well-being.

Cupping

Cupping is a therapy practiced in various cultures to promote healing and improve circulation. This method involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which is believed to enhance blood flow, alleviate muscle tension, and stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. Fire cupping is a common technique where a flame is briefly placed inside a glass cup to create a vacuum by removing oxygen, then the cup is placed on the skin. The resulting suction pulls the skin into the cup, boosting blood flow and offering therapeutic benefits. Cupping is frequently used to treat pain, inflammation, and other physical ailments.

Does cupping leave marks on the skin?

Cupping leaves marks on the skin because the suction draws blood to the surface, causing small blood vessels to break and form circular bruises. These marks are typically painless and fade within a few days.

Cupping therapy usually causes minimal discomfort, with patients feeling a tight sensation as the skin is drawn into the cups. Mild tenderness or bruising may occur afterward, but these effects are generally brief and not painful. However, after cupping, patients often feel relaxed and experience relief from muscle tension and pain.

Needling

Needling in acupuncture involves inserting fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to promote healing and balance. These points, called acupoints, are chosen to influence the flow of energy, or qi, along pathways known as meridians. The needles may be gently adjusted to enhance their effect. This technique aims to restore the natural flow of qi, reduce pain, lower inflammation, and improve overall health. Acupuncture is commonly used to treat conditions such as chronic pain, stress, and digestive issues.

Does needling hurt?

Needling in acupuncture usually causes minimal pain, with most patients feeling only a slight prick or tingling sensation when the needles are inserted. After treatment, patients often feel relaxed and may experience reduced pain and tension. Overall, the effects can include a general sense of well-being and improved physical comfort.
